Merry Christmas!

I realize Christmas was two days ago, but it's still the "Christmas season," so Merry Christmas! My apologies to those of you who have looked up my blog expecting to read some great stories, or updates on my family. I've just barely stepped into the water with this whole blog thing, but now that I've announced the site, I will try and write here on a regular basis. Keep checking here for updates, but be warned, I may be a little slow at this!

Housing Woes

Living in government housing, we are constantly rolling our eyes at the various policies and other enforcements. We moved into government housing this spring, into a brand new house, with the promise that we would be getting sod in June. We were looking forward to this, as everything was muddy after a late spring snowfall. Well, July came before the landscapers began their work, and they did indeed lay sod...just not on our entire yard.

In an effort to save money, the government hired contractors to lay sod on half of our yard, while planting seed on the other half! Since it was late in the season before they began their work, we would have preferred a yard that was entirely seeded!

The summer passed, and the seed finally grew in, although you can see definite lines where the sod ends and the seed begins. Just when my husband had our yard looking great, we found out that they are going to dig our yard up! Sewer or cable lines--I'm not sure which--but something is wrong underground, and next season we will be back to square one--no yard! What was the point of laying sod or planting grass, only to dig it up three months later? Aighh!

Now that I've vented, I will say that despite nuisances such as this, we are very thankful for our government housing! We have a wonderful house and a friendly neighborhood--one where every house will soon have the same dirt pile in the yard, without a trace of our beautiful lawns of the summer!

A sleepy evening

As I am sitting at my desk writing at 1:45 a.m., I realize how my life has changed since becoming a mother in April. Four months ago, the only reason I would be awake at 1:45 a.m. was if my son needed me (which I assure you, he did). How I longed for my bed and blissful sleep! I wondered if I would ever sleep again! But feeding my infant boy at all hours of the night has finally passed, and staying up late is a choice I can now make--although I'm sure I will regret this choice in four hours, when my son decides he (and by default, I) is ready to face a brand new day.
